I have seen a few questions as to a vertical type tool for indesign that would be similar to Illustrators and Photoshops. Does a plug-in exist that would perform the vertical type setting function over a larger set of characters. This would allow limited setting of vertical alphabets as well as other situations.

No. If you need a large block of text, do it in Illustrator, save as AI
    and place it in InDesign.

Why would you want to use AI? What's the advantage over ID?

You're right. I read too fast and thought there was a need for vertical
    text tool.
