"Crop image data to frames" does not
I have a large Indesign file with many vector images. Each of the vector images has a lot of data cropped out of the frame. When I export a pdf I have "crop image data to frames" selected. However when I open the resulting pdf in illustrator you can see that it still contains all the vector linework and has only masked the extra information, rather than leaving out the data.
I have created a test file separately, using a different vector image with data cropped out, and used the same preset settings to export a pdf. The pdf resulting from that does have the extra vector data cropped out.
Since I can get two different results with the same preset setting for exporting the pdf I can only conclude it is a difference in how the image is saved, or some setting in the Indesign file.
I have tried saving the troublesome vector graphics as eps and ai files, as old legacy versions, I have tried expanding all the brushstrokes which were in it to outlines and I have tried ungrouping everything in the file. Always the resulting pdf still has not cropped the extra data.
Does anyone have any knowledge of why this could be happening?

Re: "Crop image data to frames" does not
It's worth noting that an "image" is only a bitmapped pixel-based
thing. Nothing that applies to images will have any effect on vector
artwork.
