Default CS: Exporting eps to Vers 10

I've created an eps file using CS which I want to convert to version 10.
When I go to Export->Illustrator Legacy (* All) the eps file gets renamed with an additional "ai" extension. So, the new file now looks like
    "Filename.eps.ai".

I suspect the ".eps.ai" may be causing me some problems. Can I drop the "eps" and simply name the file "Filename.ai"?

    Thanks -

Default Exporting eps to Vers 10

What is it you want an EPS or a native AI file?

To export a legacy eps file, you would select >Illustrator Legacy EPS. If
you want a native Illustrator file, select Legacy AI

If the file you opened was an EPS, it will already have an .eps extension.
Saving as an Illustrator file will add .ai to the end of the file name.

    Leonard,

If you open a file called "filename.ai" and then wish to save it to .ai format, you just File, Save As, and in Save as Type box choose .eps. The filename.ai in the file name box will immediately change to filename.eps. No need to manually change the extension and it will not make a double extension (such as filename.ai.eps). And the same is true if the original is named "filename.eps" and you wish to make it into an .ai file.

    Hi,

I am trying to save my Illustrator CS files into Illustrator 10.0 or older version and I am completely unable to do so, any plug-in I can use? My combustion 2.1 does not read any Illustrator file beyond Illstrator 8.0 and combustion 3.0 only reads up to Illustrator 10.0. Any suggestion? Nieves
