    Default CS Printing Problems

I am having problems printing to a Xerox/Tektronix Phaser 560 (extended) laser printer with both Illustrator CS and Indesign CS running on a dual 800 mHz G4 (1024 MB) under 10.2.8. Documents sent to the printer are flushed and never print. No postscript errors are generated. PDF files of the same document will print to the same printer or to an HP2200.

It also seems that Print dialogue box for both Illustrator and InDesign CS does not honor the ppd files for printers. One has to open page setup and or printer to specify specific printer related options.

Most recently with AICS it seemed that it was an object that has not flattened that caused the problem. It is interesting that the same file would print fine with AI10 without having to flatten the transparency.

I have no clue what prevented the InDesign document not to print, but it is clearly related to changes in from earlier versions to the CS suite.

Any ideas would be most welcome.

I am having a very similar problem with a Hewlett-Packard Color LaserJet 4550 and Illustrator CS. I have just upgraded from Illustrator 7.0 on system 9, to CS on OSX. I have enough headaches without this.

    Any help?

Do the files contain gradients? If so, then in the Print dialog, go to the upper left corner switch from General to Graphics, then check "Compatable Gradient and Gradient Mesh Printing."

We have had some problems with a harlequin rip when in-rip trapping files with gradients. Checking this box has solved the problem for us.
