CS2 Cool Extras - Adobe Illustrator Windows

Adobe tech support told me today that the PDF files containing samples of the font families and the presets has been left out of the CS2 Cool Extras. Teri, were you there the day that decision was made? If so, for whoever had the bright idea to eliminate those PDFs, could you please ask the Principle to keep that dude in at recess for a week. PS: I'll bet it was the same dude who forgot to delete the tip on page 286 in the UG and in the Help Files about looking in the Welcome Screen for those PDFs. It should be worth another week of recess for the time I spent today messing around looking for those files, on the assumption I was doing something wrong. Silly me.

This is just a guess, but could this move have been made in response to people stripping font data out of PDFs to get free fonts?

I'm not sure. It seems like a lot of trouble to acquire a font that comes with Illustrator. In 10 you have to install them from the Fonts folder on the CD, in CS and CS2, they're already installed. The whole point of the PDF is so you have a quick reference to find a font or preset palette that you want. If you've paid for the software, you've already purchased the fonts.

I don't have my copy of Illustrator CS2 yet (it's on order). You're saying when AI CS2 is installed it also installs all the fonts that come with it? I hope that's not the case. I would much rather install fonts as I need them from the disc rather than having all of them bloat up my Windows registry.

Yep, it works the same way CS does.
