CS2 crashes when printing to PostScript

Default CS2 crashes when printing to PostScript

I have a large magazine file (96 pages, 4-color) created and finalized on a PowerBook 17" with 2 gigs RAM. Have had trouble with creating PDFs and printing the document, unless I do it in sections. The printer wants PDFs made from PostScript, and some of the pages cause printing to postscript to crash. I have been able to print in small sections, some of them only two pages large, trying to not choke the process with too many pages with large graphics. But sometimes even one page with small graphics will cause a InDesign to quit suddenly.

Is there any way to diagnose this problem accurately, ie, is it a lack of enough RAM issue (this is a huge file with over 200+ linked images, some of them 700megs+ so maybe a machine with 2 gigs of RAM isn't enough?), or an issue with placed graphics that may be funky? There have been one or two placed images that have behaved oddly, ie, disappearing from one work session to the next, and several images have text wraps that seem to change. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Can you export a PDF? Yes, I know what the printer wants, but an
exported PDF X/1-a file should be fine.

If not, try printing directly to Adobe PDF after setting distiller to
    PDF X/1-a.

I wonder if it's a matter of free disk space rather than RAM.

With 200 pages, and images over 700 MB each, you will be generating a very large spool file. How large is your OS volume, and how much free space is there on it?

Does the printer really want/need this all in a single PDF?
