CS2CIB first tutorial crashes InDesign CS2 - Adobe Indesign Windows

I'm finally getting around to some structured learning of CS2 and have bought Adobe's Classroom in a Book for CS2. Early on, in the Bridge section, it asks me to open an InDesign (INDD) file from bridge. Every time this crashes InDesign. I can open the file directly from InDesign but not through Bridge. I even tried reinstalling Bridge and InDesign - no joy. So I uninstalled the entire package and reinstalled it all - with the same results.

The thumbnail shows in Bridge but files won't open. I tried an INDD file I'd created with InDesign CS and the same thing happened.

I'm assuming there's a bug in Bridge but don't know what to do next. Help will, as usual, be appreciated.

This looks like the so called 'TweakUI bug'. To check this, start the Registry editor (Start Menu > Run > regedit) and go to

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer

Make sure the value of NoRecentDocsMenu is set to 0.

Hey! Thanks so much. That did it. Now. Yes, I do use TweakUI. And yes, the setting was '1' and I reset it. Is that something that another app (like Tweak) is going to reset on me? Do I have to keep resetting that if I want to open stuff from Bridge.

Meanwhile, thanks a whole lot for knowing what I was asking and hitting it right on the mark!

In the Explorer tab of ThweakUI don't uncheck Allow Recent Docs on Start Menu. This will set the registry entry I mentioned to 1.

    Hi Teus,

I don't have those options in my version of Tweak (using Windows 2000 and an older version of Tweak because it caused less disruption - I think it's the WinNT/98/95 version).

Anyway, under the IE tab, I have these check boxes available:
-Add new doents to Start Menu
-Allow Active Desktop to be turned on/off
    -Allow changes to Active Desktop
    -Allow logoff
-Clear doent, run, typed-URL history on exit
.... and various other network and shell options which I'll come back with if this doesn't do it.

Under the Explorer tab, I have the radio buttons dealing with shortcut appearance and these checkboxes:
-Manipulate connected files as a unit
-Prefix "shortcut to" to new shortcuts
    -Save Explorer window settings

I'll be happy to give another Tweak a try but the one for XP definitely doesn't work.

Thanks again; this is very helpful.
