    Default CS3 newbie template question

    Hi;

    I'd like to make the locked part of a template editable with Contribute so a
    none technical person can update common page content. Is that possible? If
    so how is it done ?

    thanks;
    Pat

    You make a locked part of a page editable with Dreamweaver, not with
    Contribute. Otherwise ... what would the point ;)

    I understand that, but the person who will do the updating doesn't have DW
    and needs to update content that appears on every page with Contribute. How
    can she use Contribute to update common content ?

    Thanks

    Pat

    You could create an include file and provide your Contribute user with a the
    url to that page.

    1. you back-up the site
    2. then you create PATH/news.php or PATH/news.inc.php
    3. then you adjust the Template on which the site is based
    3a. you rename the template so that it has the extension .php (of course the
    rest of the site also needs this extension)
    3b. In the Template you place an include command, on the location where the
    content should appear, like this: <?php include("PATH/news.php"); ?>
    4. send the user the url to news.php
    5. the user opens this file in Contribute and edits the content

    grtz.

    Thank you very much for your detailed explanation.

    I'll give it a try.
