cygwin xwin - Sun Solaris

hello all! I have a problem with launching xwin on my windows 2k pc so that I could use the CDE of my solaris 8 box. I have researched the internet for any possible solution and I think I have exhausted my resources. So far, I have tried the following: a) xwin.exe -query <machine> -from <machine> -fp tcp/<machine>:7100. -> result: I get a gray screen with the X for a mouse pointer. Default cygwin xwin

hello all! I have a problem with launching xwin on my windows 2k pc so
that I could use the CDE of my solaris 8 box. I have researched the
internet for any possible solution and I think I have exhausted my
resources. So far, I have tried the following:

    a) xwin.exe -query <machine> -from <machine> -fp tcp/<machine>:7100.
-> result: I get a gray screen with the X for a mouse pointer. It
    doesn't load anything
-> another result: when I tried it on a different machine, it was
trying to load the CDE but was blinking a couple of times and couldn't
eventually load. I think it has something to do with the screen. But I
have not used the 1024 768 screen. :(

    b) I also checked if there is a running fs (font server) and there is.

    c) I was also able to launch one machine using another software but I
want to use cygwin so I know it has nothing to do with the server and
soomething to do with my configuration.

Please help. Any help is much appreciated.

    thanks!

Except for the -from bit, thats what I do...
    $ X -query <host> -once -fp tcp/<host>:7100

I'd verify that you running dtlogin on the machine, certain that it's
not restricted (/etc/dt/config/Xaccess), and sure that there's no
firewalls or other communication problems over the channels you need.

snooping on the intended machine might be a good idea.

Hello Darren! I tried to use your command line option and it doesn't
work. :( I also tried to use snoop and it reports udp port 177
unreachable. Do you know why it reports this? thanks

Port 177 is XDMCP - if it's refusing connections, then you need to start
    dtlogin or xdm.
