    Default cyrillic fonts

    i'm using illustrator 10, and i'm trying to do a job that requires russian language. i can't seem to get my cyrillic fonts to appear as cyrillic. i am switching the font to both helvetica cy, and geneva cy (both of which appear in the font menu), but the characters still remain as roman. is there a language encoding i have to switch? please help...

    Sure... how are you importing your Cyrillic text? If you save it as a raw text file, then go to File->Place, then when you select your raw text file, you can check the Import Options box. This will allow you to match a font (like helvetica CY, for which there is no italic/bold/etc) to an encoding scheme (that would be Mac Cyrillic). You can do this with any number of fonts and font encodings, so if your raw text document is in ShiftJIS, then you would choose a Japanese font in that encoding. I haven't had much luck with Unicode Cyrillic in Illustrator, but other languages seem to work okay.
