dashed lines - only with diamonds - Adobe Illustrator Windows

Hi. Would someone explain to me how I can make a dashed line where the dashes are in fact some other shape - like a diamond? I've searched the forum on this topic but can't seem to locate a simple way to do this. Thanks, brian...

Draw the diamond and use it to define a Scatter Brush. Look up Brushes in online help. Come back if there's a problem.

    Brian:

You could also try drawing a 12 point line, and make the dashes 12 points long with 12pt spaces, then rotating the line 45 degrees, voila, diamonds!

This may seem like a crazy question... but what's the most "efficient" way to draw a diamond?

As I'll be exporting this graphic in the Adobe-supported SVG format (Scalable Vector Graphics) and then embedding it within a web page, I'm concered about file size...

You could save on anchor points by using triangles...

Seriously, though, I think drawing a square and rotating it 45 degrees is the most economical way, just 4 anchor points each.

Oh. Ok. That makes sense. At first, I thought you were proposing that I rotate the line 45-deg...

So, I would need to draw a square, rotate it 45-deg, and then follow JET's advice and define a Scatter Brush? I'll try.

Do. Or do not. There is no try.

You don't know me. You don't even think you know me. I don't even know me. I'm a riddle, wrapped in an enigma, and covered in chocolate.
