data dropout when printing to Epson 9600
I have an Epson 9600 hooked up to a Windows box sporting 768 megs of ram. This is a dedicated machine driving nothing other than the Epson. I am trying to print 30 x 40's, but the print will go to about 2/3 complete, leave a blank space of several inches, and then print just a partial strip. I am printing from PS7. Initially I thought that this was a client problem, but I generated my own image and tried to print with the same results.
I am hoping to get some answers here cuz trying to get feedback from Epson could take forever, based on past experiences with their on-line support.
Running the latest edition of PS--7.0.1--or whatever it is.

Re: data dropout when printing to Epson 9600
I can't help much but I've seen just what youre talking about,.. used to just print data instead of the picture at times too. Once it printed a couple of inches and then fed out about 60 feet of paper and printed a couple of inches more. A pain to roll back up. I was wondering if it was just the spooling getting corrupted on the way to the printer. Not working there anymore but the problem seemed intermittant; we just started over and it worked the next time.

Re: data dropout when printing to Epson 9600
deaton,
I don't know if Epson 9600 has Firewire connections, but if it has and
you're using it, then try if the same thing happens when you're using
the USB connection. If you're experiencing data dropouts with USB also,
then try with the parallel connection.
I have tried similar dropouts with an Epson 2100. It often stops in
the middle of at print when I'm using the Firewire connection but if
I use the USB (2.0) connection, then everything is okay (WinXP Pro
SP1 and Photoshop 7.01).
On <http://www.normankoren.com/printers.html> you can see that you're
not alone. See the section "Epson printer troubleshooting and
maintenance tips".

Re: data dropout when printing to Epson 9600
OK, printing seems to be running OK now. I switched to the firewire port and my prints are fine. I still had the problem while running the USB connection, so I guess I will be sticking with firewire.
Thanks for the suggestions.

It's the opposite thing here. USB2 works, Firewire doesn't but who> I switched to the firewire port and my prints are fine.
cares. As long as it's working on one port or another, it's better
than if it doesn't worked at all, I guess. :)
You're welcome and thanks for the feedback.> Thanks for the suggestions.

Re: data dropout when printing to Epson 9600
Thomas,
Excellent call. I was interested in the outcome to this one too. I wonder if it could be bad drivers combined with hardware conflicts, or what? Thanks!
