DATA MERGE.....
I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO USE THE AUTOMATION POWER OF DATA MERGE AS A WHAT I WOULD THINK TO BE A GREAT ALTERNATIVE TO SCRIPTING. I HERE IS MY QUESTION FOR ALL OF YOU INDESIGN GENIUSES. I THOUGHT THAT THE DATA FILE WAS LINKED TO THE DOCUMENT SO IF THE DATA FILE CHANGED SO TO WOULD THE INFORMATION IN THE DOCUMENT. WHY IS THIS NOT HAPPENING WITH MY DOCUMENT? AM I COMPLETELY WRONG ABOUT IT CHANGING AND AM I TOTTALY OUT OF MY MIND? I JUST THOUGHT IT WOULD WORK THAT WAY? IF NOT PLEASE LET ME KNOW SO I CAN AD THAT TO THE WANTS SECTION OF THIS WEBSITE!!! THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE INFORMATION

Re: DATA MERGE.....
It does not work this way, as far as I know, I always have to re-merge if data changes. This is why I save a copy merged and a copy before the merge, so if I change the data file I can just go back, click the "merge" again and save updated file over the older merged file. Someone may have another solution or setup I'm unaware of though.

Re: DATA MERGE.....
It does work this way when you put the placeholders onto the masterpages instead of page 1.
There are a few restriction that I barely remember. But I do remember, that all of this is rather nicely explained in the help.
Why do you scream like that? That hurt.
