database name length restrictions - IBM DB2

Hello! I am trying to connect to a db2-database on an IBM AS/400-system. Everytime i try to catalog the database via the command line processor, i get a "SQL1001N "CPLTABELLEN" is not a valid database name. SQLSTATE=2E000" I think this is caused by the database names length-restriction to 8 characters. But using the Client Configuration Assistant included in DB2Connect it works with the long database name on the "4. Database"-tab if i check the box "database physically resides on a host or AS/400 system" on the previous "3. TCP/IP"-tab. Is there a way to catalog that database using the CLP ...

    Default database name length restrictions

    Hello!

I am trying to connect to a db2-database on an IBM AS/400-system.
Everytime i try to catalog the database via the command line processor, i
    get a
"SQL1001N "CPLTABELLEN" is not a valid database name. SQLSTATE=2E000"

I think this is caused by the database names length-restriction to 8
    characters.

But using the Client Configuration Assistant included in DB2Connect it works
with the long database name on the "4. Database"-tab if i check the box
"database physically resides on a host or AS/400 system" on the previous "3.
    TCP/IP"-tab.

Is there a way to catalog that database using the CLP only? I need to
configure that on a system using DB2Connect for Linux in a non-graphical and
    non-java environment.

    Thank you,

    Stefan

Default Re: database name length restrictions

    Hi Stefan,

you have to catalog 3 entries :

    first the TCPIP node :
    db2 catalog tcpip node <nodename> remote <hostname> server <port>
    ostype OS400
    next the DCS entry:
    db2 catalog dcs db <localname> as <rdbname>
where <localname> is a max. 8 character name which you use in your
    CONNECT and
<rdbname> is the RDBNAME of your DB2/4000 eg. CPLTABELLEN whcih can be
    up to 16 characters IIRC
then at last the db directory entry:
db2 catalog db <localname> at node <nodename> authentication dcs
where <localname> is the name you used in the DCS directory

    db2 connect to <localname> user <OS/400 User> using <password>
