    the date code seems to be working as it shows the date correctly in the sql error message.

    is the problem with my greater than or equal to symbols??

    It's probably because Oracle doesn't accept ColdFusion's "{ts '...'}" format
    that a CF Date Object will display by default.
    And since different databases require dates in different formats, the easiest
    way is to use CFQUERYPARAM and let CF worry about doing the appropriate
    formatting...
    select * from Appointments where Appointment_Date >= <cfqueryparam
    value="#Now()#" type="CF_SQL_DATETIME"/>
