You can take an online backup after you have changed the db
    configuration to specify logfile archival.
Immediately after that you need to take an offline backup. From then on
    you can take online backups.
Take care though that you keep the logfiles or you won't be able to
    restore your database.
For the backup command syntax just enter backup ? on the command line.
I doubt it will be much faster though.

Hot backups are called online backups in db2 - and yes they can be
done. The database must be enabled for logretain and rollforward
recovery before online backups can be run. Ensure that all log files
which are archived during the backup are saved in order to recover
    from this backup.

Check the Command Reference for full details of all 'non-sql'
    commands.
