DB2 Server Renaming - IBM DB2

Hi, Can anyone think of any problems if I were to spin up a W2K sever and call it server_x with an i.p. address of xx.xx.x.xx for test purposes. Then when I pull out my current production server, rename the test server to server_prod with ip address yy.yy.y.yy ? Basically what I am trying to do is get my new DB2 server up and running while the production server is still in place. Then, once I am satisfied, take down the production server and replace it with the new server and give the new server the old server's "id " ...

    Default DB2 Server Renaming

    Hi,

Can anyone think of any problems if I were to spin up a W2K sever and
call it server_x with an i.p. address of xx.xx.x.xx for test purposes.
Then when I pull out my current production server, rename the test
server to server_prod with ip address yy.yy.y.yy ?

Basically what I am trying to do is get my new DB2 server up and
running while the production server is still in place. Then, once I am
satisfied, take down the production server and replace it with the new
server and give the new server the old server's "id " so I won't have
    to change any client settings.

    TIA

Your client and ldap registrations will need to be corrected when you rename
your machine. Otherwise renaming should be OK.

What we did was to use a logical DNS alias (one tied to the purpose) rather
than the real machine name in the client registration. Then to replace the
machine, you simply flick the DNS alias to the new machine. This
substantially reduces migration effort when machines are replaced. The same
also applies for non-DB2 access, such as shared files; only printers don't
work for some reason best known to Microsoft - printer names shared from W2K
Servers cannot be addressed via DNS aliases.
