DCS EPS? - Adobe Illustrator Windows

I requested an .eps file for a clients logo that was already created by someone else. When I try to open the logo it says: "DSC EPS files cannot be opened or embedded. Pleas place this file using the Link option." Does anyone know what this means? I did a search on the forum and couldn't find anything and I am also fairly new to Illustrator. Thanks, Larry...

    Default DCS EPS?

It means exactly what it says, Larry. You cannot embed a DCS EPS file in an Illustrator doent. You can only link to it.

Use the place command with the link option.

....and if you haven't figured this out already, you have been given a raster image... and one that you probably should not even bring near Illustrator. Open in Photoshop, that was the native application.

    Hmmm. DCS EPS.

That reminds me of some of the funny customer provided artwork I have received from time to time. I'll tell them I need vector artwork saved in Adobe Illustrator or EPS format. What do some of these folks do? Place a bitmap image into an application like CorelDRAW and export it as an EPS file. Durp!

Hey, Bobby, is that all? I get people who use windows explorer to change ".jpg" to ".eps" and think that is all they have to do.

And don't get me started with people who change a 1 inch high 72 dpi image to a .12 inch high 600 dpi file and expect it to work just fine ("But the file is at the resolution you requested...")

Not too many people use the Finder to do that. Makes ya think.
