Deactivation Problems
Hey folks,
is this a common problem? I purchased contribute 3 for a client to run a site
i designed for them. Before giving them contribute I installed it on my Mac to
test it. Once testing had completed I deactivated it and handed the disc over
to my client. She tries it and is told that there are too many users using the
account. She phones up Adobe to activate via phone and is told that because I
use a mac, she can't use it now because she's on a PC! What's going on? Is
there any way around this, or am I lumbered with a piece of software I already
have (under a different license that is) and does that also mean that I have to
spend more money again on a brand new license???:disgust;

Re: Deactivation Problems
I'm answering my own question here - but hopefully this will make more people
aware of the situation.
Okay, so I live in the UK. The activation via phone with contribute takes you
to the US site.
The first thing they told me was as the above - that despite deactivating the
software, it was now committed to the Mac platform. The nice lady did put me
through to another department that said that they would post out another
version of contribute, but they couldn't because I didn't live in the states
(or canada).
Next I got cut off - bearing in mind I was on the phone for over half an hour
at this point.
So I phoned Adobe UK who told me that they could do a swap, but I need to send
a proof of purchase and fill out a form. Meanwhile, my client's getting antsy
that it's not going to plan- and I'm not expecting to get the new disc for at
least a week.
I've managed to find proof of purchase, and all of this has taken me the best
part of the afternoon to sort out.
Basically to all of you out there -BEWARE- it's a silly system especially
concerning this software which is multi platform and is designed to be handed
over so that client can administer their websites.
And to Adobe I say thatks for wasting my time today. Surely adobe knows that
many designers use Macs and many clients have PC's??? IT IS NOT CLEAR ON YOUR
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION THAT YOU HAVE TO COMMIT TO ONE PLATFORM Perhaps in the next
version you can sort this out?
