Default Page Size in v8 for pc

Somehow I now get a metric envelope size as the default page size (DL Env 110x220mm) instead of the usual 'letter' page size. Have reselected 'letter' size, closed and opened 'new' but still defaults to weird envelope size. Does the same thing for page size existing documents. I cannot find a place in any of the printer, properties, preferences windows to select the page size default. Driving me crazy.

Am on a Dell pc, Windows 2000, default printer is HP Laserjet 5000DN. Yes, I've looked in the 'settings' under this printer to see if there is a default and cannot find it.

Does anyone have any solution to this? Any help is appreciated.

Open Illustrator.

Open a new CMYK document.

Change the page size and orientation to what you wish.

Save As, then navigate to the following folder (In Win XP, so you may have to search for it on your system):

--C:\Program Files\adobe\Illustrator CS\Plug-ins

Select the file named:

--Adobe Illustrator Startup_CMYK.ai

When it tells you this file already exists yadayada say "I KNOW THAT!", do it anyway.

Close Illustrator.

Open Illustrator.

Open a new document. Voila.

You can obviously do the same for the RGB Startup file.

Bert,

As I understood the question is about Illustrator 8. There's only Startup.ai in plugins folder. Everything else in your post is correct.

Besides, here is something confusing:

...."Does the same thing for page size existing documents."
