Delete a Word Document
When Contribute launches links to Word documents into MS Word, how are you
supposed to delete them from the server. Using CS3. Help!!!
I know in previous versions I could go file>actions>delete but this doesn't
seem to work anymore in CS3.
Thanks

Re: Delete a Word Document
You should check (or let your admin do that) if the next setting is ok:
1. in the menu go to Edit, Administer websites
2. go to Users and Roles
3. pick your role and click Edit Role Settings
4. adjust the last setting (File deletion) in the Folder/File access section

Re: Delete a Word Document
I am the administrator and yes that option is enabled for all our user roles on
that site. I've been administering an Intranet using Contribute. We have a
proliferation of old versions of file on our intranet and its becoming a very
unwieldy situation. We have an ISO audit coming up.
The problem is that when you click on the document link it launches the
document into MS Word where there is no option to delete. I can edit and save.
We used to load the document in Contribute like a browser and do the
file>actions>delete. Haven't been able to do this since version two so its
getting pretty bad. Nothin in help. HELP :-)

Re: Delete a Word Document
To be more specific, when I click on a link to a Word document I get
"File Download
Do you want to open or save this file?
open save cancel"
There is no option to delete. If I go open it launches in Word. etc
Is it possible this is an issue with settings in IE 7?

Re: Delete a Word Document
Have you tried using the 'Choose' button to the right of the address-bar, find the file on the server, open it and then click file>actions>delete?

Re: Delete a Word Document
Yes I have. Thanks ThinkInk.
This also launches the file into the appropriate Office app leaving Contribute
on the web page where the link was clicked. I can view all sorts of files in
file view with Contribute but not delete them. It looks like the only
Contribute users who can use this technique for removing out dated files in our
organisation are those who have version 3.0. Version 3.11 and later (CS3)
cannot open the documents in Contribute. It launches Office instead. It doesn't
appear to be affected by Office 2003 or 2007. Very frustrating!!! No info about
any technique in Contribute support material.
Thanks

Re: Delete a Word Document
The deletion of word docs does not work very straightforward for me either in
Con.CS3, but I can delete the files by using File>Actions>Delete.
If Contribute asks if I want to open the file or safe it, I click Cancel. The
url of the word doc is now in the Address-bar with a warning just below the
address-bar telling me I can't edit the file in Contribute.
In this situation when I choose File>Actions>Delete, the word document is
(apparently based on the url in the address-bar) deleted from the server.

Re: Delete a Word Document
Doesn't look like there was a resolution to this discussion.
I tried ThinkInk's steps and still am unable to delete any Office files. Am I missing something obvious?
Thanks
