Default "Deleted Hidden Page And Image Content" - Doesn't work?

Hi All

Whenever I try and crop a PDF all the cropped information is still in the document. Granted it is hidden/masked but it is still there. When I try and use the 'Deleted Hidden Page And Image Content' option it still leaves the information there. I have tried saving in various Acrobat compatible version but that doesn't work either. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Nothing wrong - this is how it is supposed to work. Cropping is
designed to be reversible.

Thanks for you response Aandi

But what about when you want to publish a PDF globally? Does this mean that anyone can reveal the whole state of a PDF regardless? What about if there is sensitive information that needs removing - is this not possible?

So what does the 'Delete Hidden Page And Image Content' option actually do then?

Thanks in advance.

Certainly! Cropping was NEVER intended for any security or redaction
purposes.

Acrobat 8 Professional does have redaction facilities, also there is a
plug-in Redax (http://www.appligent.com/).

If removing sensitive information many people have made terrible
assumptions about "removed" stuff... generally people assume that if
they cover something up, it is gone, but no-

Blimey! That's a bit of a bugger.

Think I need to do some serious thinking and planning to resolve further issues that this impacts on.

Thanks for the info.

This came up before and there was a case in Aus where a police unit publicised a child abuse investigation with a cropped pic of abused kids with their faces cropped out and someone 'uncropped' it in the press... very bad!
Can't remember how to do it off the top of the head but take care!!!

Adobe products are the only I know of that use non-destructive cropping.

I've heard save a PDF of a Cropped PDF will do it (Re-frying - comes from the term refried Beans, which beans are cook, then processed then fried again)

Yeah! That's one of the solutions that I've come up with – once the PDF is cropped, print it to Postscript, then re-distill it! Most of the time though, if I'm going to do that, I might as well go back to the original and do the job properly from the start!

Massive oversight, on Adobe's behalf, if you ask me. You should have a user-defined option to save with or with out the 'Hidden Page and Image content'!
