Deleting problems with Illustrator 10 and CS files in WinXP

I need some advice as what to do. My ICS files refuse to delete after being recorded in the winxp SP1 explorer box. I even have other files that I record and the those files delete but the .ai files don't. It says they're being used by another person or program. This ONLY happens to ai files.

I am sorry that I can't help because I logged on here to report the exact same problem. But, in addition I can be working on a complex Illustration and I will get the same message on a routine save from within ICS. I have to do a save-as to save my file. I have been able to delete some of the duplicate files created this way by completely shutting down and re-booting, and then deleting with the explorer as the first thing I do. That is, not restarting ICS or any other program before deleting. My IT people suggest that ICS is incorrectly setting a flag that indicates another program is using the file, or that the file is not being closed. Just another of several ICS glitches I guess. SF

I had the same problem occasionally with Illus 10 onwards. I found that by deleting the temp files and rebooting the machine the files would then save or I could delete the copies I had made. It's like everything that is in cache stops the file from being used. Not sure if I'm making sense for you.
