Design View is Empty! Code still there!!
Yes, this has been asked before, but an efficient solution doesn't seem to be available. My design view is empty, but all the code is still there in Code View. Page displays properly in both IE 5/6 and Netscape 7. It doesn't seem to matter whether the file is a template or not...funny thing is - the Design View will come back if I select a word in Code View and then retype that same word in its place - essentially the file hasn't even changed - but DW thinks it has (you even get the star at the filename tab like it needs saving). Save and then voila! the Design View magically reappears - until you close and reopen the file - then you gotta do the same thing all over again.
This is highly frustrating...makes using templates impossible, cuz the changes you make then don't stick so the Design View NEVERcomes back!...I am afraid to recreate my Config folder - what's gonna happen to all my extensions? Am I gonna have to go in and deactivate them ALL first??? What a pain!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArrrrgggghhh! I need Big-Time Help! Somebody please help me!....

Re: Design View is Empty! Code still there!!
need new info to narrow it down-
does this happen with all files
does this happen with a new blank file.
what file extension/server model
any ssi or includes.
URL's to pages.
has this always happened
any timeframe/system change/code change you can pinpoint to when it started
to happen

Re: Design View is Empty! Code still there!!
I wish my problem was that complicated -- but quite honestly, I'm talking about some very simple pages. Something I just realized today, though, is -- two websites I've edited since forever (AND since before 6.1) open in Design View just fine. Seems like it's only the ones I've created since 6.1 that're stuggling...
Emailed MM Tech Support -- haven't heard anything from them yet.
This is actually causing me a great deal of work stoppage! Pleeeeeeeeeeaaase someone shoot me an answer!!!

Re: Design View is Empty! Code still there!!
O.....M.....G!!!!!! I think I may have just solved my own problem - for the time being...
I just discovered - none of my previous pages (webs created 6+ mos ago) were coded at the top to be XML/XHTML compliant - they, of course show up fine...
But the ones that I've built recently, in trying to keep with new XML code standards, had this line at the very beginning of the code (you should recognize it, I'm sure):
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>
As soon as I took that out - of both my template and reg files, they opened up in Design View just fine! Thank God!!!
Now, the problem is (Macromedia - are you listening?) -- what in the world do we do if we actually want them compliant???...Anyone got an answer???

Re: Design View is Empty! Code still there!!
I saw the same thing here and traced it back to the "webclient" service being stopped.. Windows 7 64. I had orig. though it was a CSS problem as it was happening on all pages (in a site).. Once I got webclient back into the list of default services that load with windows then all was well again.
