How can I reduce all open windows so that only the desktop is visible? Is there a shortcut key? In Windows one simply clicks on the icon 'show desktop'. Is there something in Mac? Thanks Charlie M...

    How can I reduce all open windows so that only the desktop is visible?
    Is there a shortcut key? In Windows one simply clicks on the icon
    'show desktop'. Is there something in Mac?

    No, that will only hide the current app. (Actually, I didn't know
    there was such a shortcut, but with some experimentation, I found that
    Cmd-Opt-clicking on the desktop hides all other apps.)

    BTW, note that this doesn't just affect the Finder -- you can
    option-click an icon in the dock or another app's windows to get the
    same effect for that app. Or cmd-opt-click, of course.

    Or command-option click the finder's icon in the dock (OS X only, of
    course).
