I came here looking for an answer to this EXACT problem. I can add words to my user dictionary. Then all of a sudden they will seem to disappear.

However, I think I have noticed that the document that is open at the time the user dictionary is emptied, will have the contents added to its document dictionary. Has anyone else noticed this? And I can't seem to find a way to export the word list from the document dictionary

It's very frustrating to have to keep re-adding the same words over and over again, knowing they will vanish soon enough. Has anyone found a solution to the problem yet?

I also have experienced this problem.

I keep having the re-add certain words.

I will watch this post to see what the solution is.

As you can see in the messages above I also had this problem, and running the "Repair Disk Permissions" from the Mac OS X Disk Utility (First Aid) seems to have done the trick.

Since the 12th of May, I've been using nearly daily InDesign and I haven't had to re-add a single word in my dictionary. Seems to be THE SOLUTION (for me at least)! Hope it will work for you guys too...

I've had the same issue too -- for weeks, trying to avoid trashing my preferences files. Sure enough, though, when I trashed those preferences the dictionary started taking my words again. Hope that helps you guys too . . .
