Default Difference between Outline stroke and Outline Path

My question is how the "Outline Path" command differs from the "Outline Stroke" command. Both commands are found under Object, Path.

Also, since they are so similar, when is it appropriate to use each of them?

Can someone please tell me how they differ, and when you would use one instead of the other? They seem so similar. And once you have released the compound shape after using Outline Stroke, the results seem identical.

    Thank You

What version of Illustrator do you have?

My version is the latest (CS) and I don't have outline path as an option...it is OFFSET path, which allows you to control how far away you want a copy of the stroke (similar to Corel's contour command).

Is this what you mean? If so, simply draw a shape and apply the command to see how it works.

Default Re: Difference between Outline stroke and Outline Path

Outline Stroke creates a path around the *appearance* of a stroke. For example, when applied to a straight line with a thick stroke, it will create a filled, unstroked rectangle.

    Thank You,
I have Illustrator 10 and mine does not have outline path either. I was actually posting this question for another person from another forum. A gave them the link to this forum so that they could read from some of the Adobe Pro's.
Thanks again, that is the same as what I thought.
