Default Different formatting in Edit Page and Publish mode

As newbie in both web publising and Contribute, I suppose the solution to my
    problem is simple.

When editing a page, everything looks perfect. The different fonts, size and
colors looks good. As soon as I've published the pages (everything is done
local on my pc), it looks much different, with colors converted to black, and
the fonts look very simple (maybe courier or something). The professional look
from Edit Page mode is completely gone.

Can anyone, in a simple way, explain why this happens? I am trying to create a
new site, first on my local pc, and then publishing it to a web hotel.

    Any help hihgly appreciated.

    thanx

Did you use CSS in your web site? external or internal? would it be possible for you to send me a sample so i can replicate the problem?
