    Default Digital Photo Printer

In an effort to get higher quality prints, I purchased a Sony Photo Printer, DPP-EX5. I am very pleased with the quality, but when the printer is off, it makes a high pitched hum. I exchanged it and the new printer makes the same hum. Does anyone know if this is normal?

Do you switch it of at the wall socket (outlet) or the switch on the top ?

Never seen one, but normally when switching these kinds of devices off, the mains power is slill flowing through the transformer when 'off' (more like a stanby mode). This is proven by where the hum comes from.

A mains supply smoother may help if your supply is a bit spikey.

    Hope that helps a bit

I usually switch it off from the top (as you said, it does go into a standby mode), but when I tried to switch it off from the main socket, the next time I use it, it won't work, and I have to reinstall the drivers.

I have the Sony printer that came out just before yours, the one that lays flat. It is silent in standby mode. I noticed my local Wal-Mart sells your printer. They had one hooked up, but I don't recall any hum from it. However the store is a bit noisey.
You might try this link and send an e-mail or something to Sony.
