Director MX 2004 on OS X crashing on startup
I have recently purchased Director MX 2004 for Mac OS X and it has proved to be
useless because it is crashing on startup.
After installing the trial download on my G4 867MHz and then purchsing a
serial #, the program activiated and ran just fine -- for about 20 minutes. I
published a project created under the MX trial and then MX 2004 began to refuse
to start up and producing a crash report every time re bad addresse
Thinking this might be a processor thing, I tried installing on my Dual G5 and
the same thing happened. Program ran fine the first time, then I tired to open
a schockwave file downloaded from Macromedia. Director would not open it and
then started refusing to start up just as it had on the G4 The G5 generated a
crash report of the same type
"Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001
"Codes: KERN_INVALID ADDRESS (0X0001) at 0x0829f02c
This looks like a profound error
This is my first Macromedia purchase and I am not very pleased do far. I
realize this is a new version, but a product this expensisve should be tested
more throughly one would think
Anyone one else having the same problems

Re: Director MX 2004 on OS X crashing on startup
Update after a couple of days of troubleshooting
I have now tried most of the typical things to get the program to start up and
run -- installing most recent system software (10.3.2) repairing permissions,
reinstalling the software a couple of times, trashing preferences etc --
nothing has worked. I am dead in the water. I've sent dozens of crash reports
to Apple by now
This could be a software conflict, but my G5 and G4 have rather different
software loaded, so I suspect the system

If you haven't already done so, I would recommend that you take this up
directly with customer support - If you are in the US or Canada you can
contact them using this form

Re: Director MX 2004 on OS X crashing on startup
Le
The problem with my retail download is that it quits, bounces in the dock in
OSX and then quits but only after I have made a couple of director files and
suddenly Director will not remember and that's when it crashes
But if I make a new user the problem goes away
I've tried trashing prefs in Library
No dice
By the way the issue I had with my DVD links not working in a projector
disappeared and they link okay
So the problem seems to be in how Director handles it's prefs
I love this version best ever but boy is it full of bugs
Good luck but really Macromedia needs to look at its own Forum

Re: Director MX 2004 on OS X crashing on startup
I had the exact same experience that you described in your original post
I noticed that the Start Page would begin to load and then CRASH!, every time
So i removed the Start Page directory from the MX directory and it's worked
fine ever since

We do monitor the forums as time permits, but they are not an official tech
support channel- you'll really need to contact tech support directly via the
URL above (two free incidents with your purchase) if you'd like to get
one-on-one assistance.
Hope this helps out!

Re: Director MX 2004 on OS X crashing on startup
Well, glad I'm not alone. I wanted to try out MX2004 on Panther 10.3.2 but he's
refusing to load, leaving my system unstable to the point that I have to hard
reset. After reading the post I moved away the Start Page directory, which
helped a very small bit . Now the finder is able to tell me that Director
unexpectedly quit (oh surprise) BUT also generated a crash report. Now since I
don't find a way of contacting Macromedia tech support without paying for the
bugs they left in I'll just copy the report in. Here goes
Date/Time: 2004-02-19 11:49:57 +010
OS Version: 10.3.2 (Build 7D24
Report Version:
Command: Director M
Path: /Applications/Macromedia Director MX 2004/Director MX
2004.app/Contents/MacOS/Director M
Version: 10.0 (10.0
PID: 43
Thread: Unknow
Link (dyld) error
dyld: /Applications/Macromedia Director MX 2004/Director MX
2004.app/Contents/MacOS/Director MX dead lock (dyld operation attempted in a
thread already doing a dyld operation
As said after this my systems is completely unstable after trying a restart it
fails complaining that "Mirror Agent" cancelled the request (time out)
I really hope I am doing something wrong, and somebody is able to tell me what
In the mean time , I think I'll just start brushing up my RealBasic skill
Bar
