Let's assume you type into your Address bar the address,

http://localhost/virtual_directory

IIS can do one of two things with this. The first thing it can
try to do is load the default page (i.e., default.aspx, index.htm,
etc.) if one is configured AND a file going by that name resides
in the virtual directory.

The other thing it can do is display the contents of the directory
similar to what you might get if you typed the "dir" command in
a shel window. Of course, this could be a setting hackers can
exploit to view the directory in your file system so IIS disables
it by default. You need to tell IIS to turn enable browing in the
virtual directory.

Run the Internet Information Services MMC app and expand
your web site. Right-click on the web site and select Properties...
from the context menu. A tabbed dialog form will be displayed.
Select the tab labeled "Home Directory" and there is one check-
box labeled "Browse directory" along with other checkboxes
that control access privileges to the virtual directory like reading
and writing. What you need to do is to check the "Browse
directory" box, apply the changes and then try re-accessing
the URL which gave you the error.

Default Directory Listing Denied

Im still getting this message. I recently had another user profile created on
my machine. My Host service was saying they had LCK files in my directory.

I was able to edit and upload very easily. Now I cant get rid of this error
HELP!!! Please!!!

This message means that the host server is not finding its default file when
you try to browse to that directory. Ask your host what their default
filenames are, and then rename your index.html file to one of those names.

All I can tell you is that the host server is not finding your file. Either
it's named with the wrong first letter (is it lower case?), or it's in the
wrong folder. Ask your host to help....
