disappearing images
okay i kno i'm an absolute noob when it comes to websites, but i need some help. I'm creating multipage website using dreamweaver, and on each page there are different pictures. for each page a view using the internet browser it looks fine, but when i started to link the pages and started to go to pages from the homepage the images were replaced with the wihte box with a red x in the corner. so i went back through and checked the sources of the file, and ended up redoing the website to see if i did anything wrong, and i can't seem to find where i'm making a mistake. plzz i need help!
thanx

Re: disappearing images
ero:
This is normal when you use ROOT RELATIVE rather than DOCUMENT RELATIVE
links for your images. Why? Because if you use a root relative link, e.g.,
<img src="/images/foo.gif"...
and browse to the page (basically what you are doing when you click away
from DW's preview page), the browser begins looking for the image in the
root of the hard drive, not the root of your DW site.
The solution is to use only document relative links. Go here to read about
them -

Disappearing images
Having completed a design which includes several jpg images and uploading
all files to the remote site, I am unable to see any images on the remote
site although other computers can see these images. I use IE 6.0 and
Dreamwever 4.0. Any ideas?

Disappearing Images
I'm working on a file in Freehand MX with a bunch of placed images
After a while I need to change the images from Photoshop EPSs to TIFFs. So I
open them all up, save them as TIFFs then close them. The next time I open the
Freehand file, it asks for the location of the images. I redirect it to the new
TIFFs and after it updates all the images it opens the file and the placed
images are now invisible. They're still on the page (I can see them in keyline
view) but they can't be seen. Changing the link via the Link button in the
Object pallette doesn't fix it either
The only fix I've found so far is to select the image in question, write down
it's coordinates, delete it, then re-import it
Needless to say, this is very time-consuming and I don't have a surplus of
time to burn on a simple operation that used to work in previous versions of
Freehand
Is there some preference I need to select or other not-so-obvious method of
changing the preview of placed images that would prevent this workaround

office. Just cloning the bitmaps seemed to "decloak" them. Does that do
it for your files?

Re: Disappearing Images
We have not suffered your problem exactly but we learnt in FH10 to save
Photoshop images as TIF files as FH10 would often run out of memory printing EPS
However now we have upgraded MXa we are now having severe issues printing some
TIF images with clipping paths. Some print. Some don't. Once imported and
scaled, some TIF files then cannot be re-selected, moved or scaled. And MXa
keeps crashing whenever it feels like it! If we export the jobs in FH10 format
and work and print from FH10, we have no problems. Have you had any issues like
this

Re: Disappearing Images
Wes
No, cloning the images doesn't work. It seems that if the image is present
when the file is opened then it's a lost cause. Trying to update the link as
Freehand opens the file doesn't work. Neither does relinking from the object
pallette. The only workaround appears to be ditching the image then importing
it again
Simon
Mine prints fine, using either the TIF or EPS. You may want to check your
images for either extra alpha channels or unused clipping paths, that usually
causes problems for us as well

Re: Disappearing Images
I have checked the files for Alpha Channels, clipping paths etc. These images
print just fine from Quark 4 and 5, and from Freehand 10. But not always from
MXa - sometimes, sometimes not. I am a Mac user since the 512K Mac Plus
arrived, a FreeHand user since version 2 and this issue has me stumped
