Disk Druid not seeing second drive as hdb - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

List, I am attempting to install RH7.1 on a second, external hard drive. I have installed the drive, set it as slave, and had the new drive recognized by XP. Disk Druid, however, does not seem to see the second drive at all, much less as hdb. I have seen several postings to this effect, but I don't seem to see a clear-cut explanation and resolution. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks much, Mike...

If it is you may need a newer distro that came out about the same
time or after the system was built for the hardware to be supported.

It has to be recognized by your BIOS. When the computer boots up, are
bothdrives listed in the listing of the hardware by the bios as the
    computer boots up?
You say it is external. How is it conected to the machine? Is it scsi,
usb, firewire, mental telepathy? What do you mean"set it as slave"?

    David,

After further investigation (and opening my eyes a little wider), I
would guess you are right on the mark. I am unable to get the
installation to even recognize my video card (which makes me unable to
boot to the graphical installation). Looks like I'll have to go to
    RH9.......

    Thanks much,

    Mike

It is an external drive (can't fit a second hd in a Dell low profile
chassis) connected via usb. The jumpers on the new drive set the new
drive as a slave. The bios has recognized the drive and it shows as a
second drive connected by USB in, for example, the output of Belarc
    Advisor.
