Default Display thumbnails for all JPGs in a directory

I am using Dreamweaver 6.1 on WinXP.

I need to display pictures from many different directories.
Each directory will be a different product.

What I would like to do is:
    1. Create a template (since all pages are identical except for the directory of the images).
    2. For the directory, display a list of thumbnails
    3. Let the user click on a thumbnail and blow it up to viewable size on the SAME page.

I dont want to have to bring up a new page just to see this image.

    I am looking for suggestions:
    1. On which product to use (Fireworks, Flash, ...).
    2. Ideas on how I can research into how to do this.
    3. Code samples
    4. Extensions that already do something like this.

    Thanks in advance.
