Distilled Quark Documents embed True type version of Helvetica
WE use a Group of Postscript fonts that are activated and managed by Suitcase 11. After creating a Quark 6 document and distilling one of our Postscript fonts is being replaced by the same name True type version (helvetica).

Re: Distilled Quark Documents embed True type version of Helvetica
Jeff,
Quark 6 on Mac OS X never embeds the 13 base fonts (which is very bad). For this reason the Distiller embeds the TrueType Helvetica installed with the system. In order to embed the correct Helvetica you have to copy the font to the Resource/Font folder of Acrobat. You can check the font folder where Distiller searches for the fonts in the menu item Settings > Font Locations.

Re: Distilled Quark Documents embed True type version of Helvetica
Uli,
Thanks for the interesting reply. I am running Suitcase to manage my Postsript fonts. Do I put postscript Helvetica in both the Suitcase and the settings/font location? Or. do I remove the Helvetica.d font in the main system folder?

Re: Distilled Quark Documents embed True type version of Helvetica
Jeff,
there are different ways to handle it:
- You can just continue working as you are doing for the moment and copy the appropriate Helvetica font to the Acrobat Resource/Font. Fonts in this folder will take precedence over other the system fonts when distilling the PS files.
- You may replace the Helvetica dfont by the Helvetica Type1 font. This is OK when you’re working always with the same Helvetica but when frequently working with different Helveticas I’d would not do it (replacing fonts in the system folder is always a little bit delicate).
- Removing the Helvetica from the system folder is risky because apps like TextEdit or iCal need a Helvetica and will crash if they don’t find it. That means if you do this you have to make sure that you provide at any time a Helvetica via Suitcase. Also the Distiller doesn’t use the Suitcase fonts, i.e. you have to copy the appropriate Helvetica to the Acrobat Resource/Font folder in this case.
