I have had the same experience as Jon, so I did a "save as" from Photoshop and embedded the profile. Here is the result: no pdf. Interesting though, if I create the PDF in Acrobat 6, it works and passes the PDF/X-1a test!

    Adobe PDF Settings: /Library/Application Support/Adobe PDF/Settings/Blethen CMYK Conv(1).joboptions
    CalCMYKProfile: U.S. Sheetfed Coated v2
    PDFXOutputIntentProfile: None
PDFXOutputIntentProfile and CalCMYKProfile must be the same for Convert All Colors to CMYK.
%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: setdistillerparams; ErrorInfo: PDFXOutputIntentProfile setdistillerparams ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
