I am trying to create a pdf from my Quark 6.5.2 file (120kb file). I'm running a G5 PowerPC with OS X 10.4.8 and 1gb ram. I have saved the file as an eps and then tried to make a press quality pdf. The file seems to process and then at the end the app quits and I get a generic message saying Distiller quit unexpectedly. I get a

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000

in the log, but I don't know what that means.

I also tried saving the file from Quark as a .ps file, but Distiller crashes, too. I then saved a Photoshop Elements file as an eps, and Illustrator 9 (shapes only, no text) eps and those crashed Distiller, too! I tried converting a jpeg file to pdf in Distiller and that just gave an undefined error and flushed the rest of the job. I was able to make the jpeg to a pdf in Acrobat Pro though. I did the detect and repair in Acrobat 7.0.8 (multiple times), and every time it tells me the missing components were repaired.

I can make the pdf in Quark directly through, but I can't figure out why they aren't working through Distiller anymore. I prefer going through Distiller to make my pdf's.

I've uninstalled Distiller and reinstalled it (along with Acrobat Pro) and did the upgrades to get me back to 7.0.8. I've checked my fonts through FontBook for problems and there are none.

I upgraded to 10.4.8 a few weeks ago and did a clean install of all software. I don't think I had used Distiller since then though. Is there a fix that I am missing?

Thank you for any help!
