Re: Distiller 8 problem with Intel Mac?
Quark 7 has a problem printing PDF files. See the Quark forums on PDF (http://www.quark.com/service/forums/viewforum.php?f=20) for the solutions. Note that different updates are needed for each version of Mac OS.

"My Distiller crashes every time I hit the color tab in the edit Adobe pdf settings menu.....any ideas what that might be? "
Do not use any other colour parameters than those made with Adobe photoshop or those which are pre-installed.
If you create personal colour parameters with Illustrator or Indesign, this drive Distiller to crash when hitting the colour tab in the pdf settings.
Remove all personal colour parameters (User > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Color > Settings) except those made with Photoshop.

Re: Distiller 8 problem with Intel Mac?
I am having a problem with Acrobat myself. I create a file in InDesign that has text with Veranda, Arial, and Helvetica. I create either a post script or a pdf file. Then I re-open it to try and edit the file in Acrobat. I use the Touchup Text tool to try and edit the text. It lets me edit at first, but when I save it, it says the font cannot be embedded, because the font on the page and the system font are encoded differently. If anyone can help me, that would be great.

Re: Distiller 8 problem with Intel Mac?
I just moved from a PowerMac Dualcore G5 (10.5.2) to a new MacBook Pro 17" (10.5.2) and I´m also having troubles with Distiller 8. Some PS-files printed from FreeHand MX will distill just fine, but 95% of the files don´t. I´ve tried removing the fonts but that didn´t help.
Distilling: Startia-esite A4 FIN.ps
Start Time: perjantai 4. huhtikuu 2008 at 18:41
Source: /Users/kim/Desktop/PS-tiedostot/Startia-esite A4 FIN.ps
Destination: /Users/kim/Desktop/PS-tiedostot/Startia-esite A4 FIN.pdf
Adobe PDF Settings: /Users/kim/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/FRAM.joboptions
%%[ Error: ioerror; OffendingCommand: show ]%%
Stack:
(a)
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Distill Time: 0 seconds (00:00:00)
* *** End of Job ****
The PS-file distills just fine on a PowerPC Mac running the same software. I ´m going to install Distiller 7 back to see if it helps.

Re: Distiller 8 problem with Intel Mac?
Dan there is a doc on the adobe site:
<http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=332579>
I know the doc refers to Acrobat 7 but the issue is the same for Acrobat 8 and the fix in the doc does not work. There is really no fix. If you click away from the message it will usually go ahead and accept the change.
Good Luck!

Re: Distiller 8 problem with Intel Mac?
We are also getting the immediate crash of Distiller 8.1.2 after the splash screen. On the same Mac, Distiller 8.0.0 runs perfectly. We can alternate between the crashing 8.1.2 and the running 8.0.0 in seconds...fail, succeed, fail, succeed. I think this shows the Mac itself is not at fault, if 8.0.0 can run. Seem as if the 8.1.2 (which was updated to that version simultaneous as all the other CS3 portions using Adobe Updater) has issues. I hope we will not be missing any crucial functionality or bug fixes by sticking with 8.0.0.

Gosh that problem has been around for ages.
In in preferences there is or was a setting you could uncheck to prevent Acroabt ?distiller from Crashing. That has been around since version 5 at least on OS9.
I thought they fixed that ages ago.
