Distiller - %%[ Error: Helvetica not found. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
Hi
Am running Distiller - 7.0 (Pro Version: 7.0.5.23.09.2005) on my WinXP
SP2 fully patched.
When am in Quark and I have made an page (with HelveticaLT fonts only)
and save that page as an .eps file.
Then I take the .eps file and put it in a hotfolder too my Distiller
and the page looks right. But I get an error processing the pdf.
"%%[ Error: Helvetica not found. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%"
Why does this error message comes up. I dont have any Helvetica fonts
on my computer, just HelveticaLT.

Re: Distiller - %%[ Error: Helvetica not found. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
You do have Helvetica, Windows requires it. There are several reasons
for this. The version of Helvetica on your machine is Copyright
protected and won't let you embed, or possibly there is a space using
Helvetica, etc. It's probably not a problem if you're not using it.
Open the PDF in Acrobat, and go to File/Document/fonts. See if
Helvetica is listed, and if it shows that it is missing. I would
suggest for a sure fire test, to open it in Illustrator and see exactly
where it says Helvetica is being used. Cheers,

Re: Distiller - %%[ Error: Helvetica not found. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
Thanx for the reply GDog
I have browsed my c: drive for Helvetica, but no Helvetica there. I
have a norwegian XP version and an English version, both came up with
no hits.
When I open up FIle/Document/fonts there is no Helvetica.
When i search for Helvetica in the registry i only find in -
HK_Current_User - Software-Microsoft-Shared Tools-Font Mapping. Here is
the font Areal-(mapped) up too Helvetica, and Arial Narrow (mapped) too
Helvetica Narrow.
Can I find Helvetica on MS? If its required it must be free?? :)
Thanx

Re: Distiller - %%[ Error: Helvetica not found. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
I do apologize, you're absolutely right. There's a good chance you
don't have Helvetica. It's not required by Windows it's required by OS
X. I work between the two so much I forget. What I think is happening,
though, is that Helvetica could be used in a character style or a
paragraph style by default. I'm not sure why you're exporting as an EPS
however. That raises some obscure font issues in it's own right. I
would suggest printing to a Postcript file, or exporting as a
Postscript or PDF. I don't think you'll get that error. I really do
suggest running the EPS or PDF through Illustrator to see what exactly
is trying to use that font. It could be page information, or several
other things. Let me know what you find out.
