Distiller quits when trying to make a pdf

I've had trouble with my distiller for quite awhile. Yesterday I found the Uninstaller for it and uninstalled it. I reloaded it and added all my settings back in. I have certain files that cause problems so I tried to make a pdf of one of those. I'm still getting the error as before that says "error: undefined; offending command: distillsave..." and no pdf was produced. I found a post here about Norton Anitvirus, so I turned off auto save. Now my distiller quits when I dump a ps. file in it. I found another post here about having to get rid of Norton AntiVirus altogether. That's not an option. Is there any other way to fix this. It's worse now than before. At least before I could make 90% of my pdf's, now Distiller won't stay up long enough to make a pdf!!!

Have you updated your antivirus to the latest available version?
Have you tried temporarily switching it all off to see if the problem
goes away?

Done all that. The Antivirus is 10.1.1

What version of Acrobat and OS?

Acrobat Distiller 6. OSX10.3.9.
It's been working, but I'm still getting some ps files that won't make pdf's. If I just keep dumping the ps file into distiller sometimes it will eventually make the pdf file. It's almost like it gets tired of me nagging it and decides to go ahead and make it! : )
