Distiller won't start; crash log included

Whenever I try to start Distiller it crashes.

have you deleted ditiller prefs yet? How many fonts do you have installed on the system?

Yes I have.

I have about 1,500 fonts or so.

Do you use a font management utility, or do you just dump them all in the system?

Whittle the fonts down to thos installed by the OS and see if the problem recurs.

Unbelievable, but true.

My manager and I spent about 4 hours this afternoon trying to run Norton with several disk errors and then with Disk Warrior. Then back to Norton. Just couldn't get anywhere and he gave up for the day. He told me we'd try again tomorrow. He had emailed a friend and was hoping that we'd hear from him by morning. Then I checked this site again after my post and saw your replies.

I trashed my Distiller preferences as instructed. Emptied the trash. Then tried Distiller again. Same problem.

I then went into Suitcase Fusion and shut off most of my fonts leaving me with about 20 or so fonts. I then tried Distiller again. And voila! It opens again.

I can't thank you enough. I'm not sure which of my fonts is actually causing the problem or if it's the amount of fonts loaded (approx. 450 fonts) but at least I've got something to work with.

The crash is font related for me as well. Unfortunately, it seems to be a large number of fonts, many of which we use every day. This means they're not corrupt right? So what would the problem be?

No, not at all. You could have a number of fonts that have become corrupt, or there is one in the set you are loading.

Thanks Lucie. I've done this before as well. Distiller works for awhile and then starts quitting at startup again. The other night I tried to nail down a font problem but it seemed to reject any font that started with "t".
