Distilling Spot Colors?

    Default Distilling Spot Colors?

My Quark doc has a few picture files in it with spot colors that aren't
printing. Quark is recognizing the files with spot colors and displaying
them correctly too. But when I create a Press Ready (default settings) PDF
from a PS file, those pics with spot colors vanish in the PDF. Oddly enough,
the same spot color used variously in text shows splendidly in the PDF.

It might be of interest to the tech savvy here that these files with spot
colors were in the image mode of multi-channel and saved out of Photoshop in
the DSC 2.0 format for Quark.

Software used was: Quark 4.1, Photoshop 7.0, Acrobat 5.0

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

You must not use the DSC format. It is only suitable for making
separations in XPress, NOT for making composite PDF files. This is
not a bug: it is how DSC was designed.

Correction to my reply. I think you meant "DCS" (Desktop Color
Separations) format, and if you did, then my reply should have said
DCS too. DSC is a form of PostScript too.

Andi thank you so much. You've been a great help in this forum (and others
too) for quite some time now. Understanding the interplay of DCS and PDF has
truly been helpful. All the best.
