distortion of shapes

When I "drag to rotate" a group of objects they become distorted and elongated
at certain angles, see:

These spheres were created in Maya. I pulled the camera far back from the
objects to eliminate perspective distortion but that does not appear to be the
problem. The effect does not occur in Maya when I rotate the camera.
How can I eliminate this distortion?
