Distributed File System question -
Hi all.
I wonder if somebody could assist me.
I'm going to be rolling out a Server 2003 network and I am
attempting to get DFS working.
I have created a simple two server development AD network,
with a single forest, containing the root domain and one
child domain of the root. We're using MS DNS Server to tie
it all together and the domains are working fine.
I have attempted creation of a DFS namespace root, and
this works, any client can connect to the root of the
namespace (\\domainname\dfsroot), however if I create any
DFS links under the root, even a link to a shared resource
on the same physical server, they don't work
(\\domainname\dfsroot\dfslink).
I have logged in as the server administrator and as a user
with the same effect on both accounts, however the normal
user account has full NTFS and share permissions.
I have also tried joining the PC to the domain, or having
it freestanding, with no difference.
Here is the error that XP is returning -
\\domainname\dfsroot\dfslink is not accessible. You might
not have permission to use this network resource. Contact
the administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions. The Network location cannot be
reached. For more information about network
troubleshooting, see Windows Help.
Permissions however are set up perfectly well. I cannot
find a single knowledgebase article related to the issue.
Can anybody help me!?
