.DLL error - Adobe Photoshop 7, CS, CS2 & CS3

Hey, So, I was installing some plugins, and when i got done, I restarted my computer. When I tried to open Photoshop 7, it came up with an error reading "The PHOTOSHOP.EXE file is linked to missing export ADVAP132.DLL:GetEffectiveRightsFromAcIA". I've unistalled it about 4 times and reinstalled it, but nothing changes. It's very frustrating. Thanks for any help i can get!...

reinstall. rerun setup (win98) from the disk. should be fairly quick and painless. just install right over the old install (c:\windows?)

then re-get all the patches from windows update. whole she-bang shouldn't take more than an hour and your system'll be happy for another 5-8 months.

I have the .dll file...But will running setup get rid of this problem? If so, thanks!

    it should. and it's ADVAPI32.DLL

it's an operating system file. it's the base windows 32 bit api core componant. you're likely having what's called "DLL hell" where some program or other installed a version of the dll that's not compatable (out of date) with what's needed by other programs.

after re-running win98 setup and getting the updates. rerun the ps7 installation and you should be good to go.

One last question. Will running the setup wipe out everything on my computer? I haven't backed up my files for a while....

nope. not if you install to the current directory (usually c:\windows).
