Does anyone outsource DBA? - Microsoft SQL / MS SQL Server

    Hello All,

We have outsourced much or our IT department to a large service provider who
is managing our NT/Netware environment and our network infrastructure
(routers, switches, etc.). They are using an enterprise management system
to gather snmp traps and alerts and other info in order to identify problems
    before we do.

Unfortunately, all of their focus appears to be on the infrastructure and
operating systems and none (or at least not significant) on the database
component of our IT. Our SQL servers still fall over when they run out of
disk space and queries get slow and we are pretty much left to our own
devices. If we have a serious problem, they will work on it, but they don't
seem to have the tools or procedures to actively manage our database
    environment.

Recently I have been talking to outsourcing companies that specialize in
database management. They seem to be positioning themselves to augment our
primary outsource service provider. Some work with all flavors
(www.saabconsulting.com) and some are specialists in SQL Server (which is
attractive to us) like www.qameo.com .

When we outsourced, we really cut back on staff with the expectation that
there would be less to do. That is certainly true on the infrastructure
side, but my DB guys have just as much work with fewer of them. I'd love to
outsource all the routine admin stuff and monitoring as well as have an
outsourcer who could handle overflow and help us on the tougher stuff so
this sounds like a good idea, but I don't have any experience with any of
these specialty outsourcing companies. I'd be interested in experiences of
    others or recommendations.

    Thanks,.

I could manage your SQL Servers if you give me remote access. I have 8 years
experience in SQL Server and am a certified VB, SQL Server and ASP
    Programmer with 16 years experience.

    Dean.

A New Zealand based company - www.sqlservices.com were exhibiting their SQL
Server admin services at the Australian TechEd this week. I met three of
them - they seemed to be well organised & may be what you're looking for.
Have a look at their web-site as they've got their services mapped out
    pretty well there.
