Yes. Everything about the Mac feels faster on a G5; it's not just Illustrator.

Does CS save any faster on a G5? If you have a document that has any type of complexity this version chokes when it comes to saving.

I disagree Christopher. I've found CS to save at twice the speed of v10, if not faster with very complex images. Of course, my images exclude text. I rarely set more than a single sentence in Illustrator.

One of the reasons I asked this question about the G5 speed was that for me at least there was no perceivable speed increase between a 333hz G3 imac and a dual 800hz G4 with Gforce 3 graphics card.

I ran the two computers next to each other - opened, scrolled and zoomed in some large test files. Specifically to find out if the G4 “felt” any faster.

They re-drew on the screen and moved at exactly the same speed. Except for saving which was faster on the G4.. thank god.

I came to the conclusion that apart from the bigger screen it was a complete waste of money upgrading to the G4 for the sake of Illustrator.

Other applications were faster between the computers but absolutely not Illustrator.

I noticed a huge speed increase going from a Dual 1 GHZ to a Dual 1.42 GHZ. I'm sure a G5 with its modern bus would rawk.

I have Illustrator CS on an 800MHz iMac(512 MB of RAM) at work and a PowerMac G4 with dual 800 processors(768 MB of RAM) at home and I see a huge diffference. My computer at home "feels" faster by a good margin. From the way it saves to how quicly fonts auto activate w/ Suitcase X1... I don't know if it's the extra processor or the RAM that makes it work faster, it just is... My 2 cents...

I've just upgraded from a Dual 450mhz G4, to a Dual 2Ghz G5 using Illustrator CS and this thing kicks. Obviously the jump in processor speed is quite large here, but yes everything definitely feels faster. I don't think I could complain about 1 thing in Illustrator being slow anymore. (give me a couple of months and it'll probably start to feel slower...isn't that the way it always goes)

    Scott,

I am experiencing this slow saving on every machine that I have tried CS on. I am one of the people that had relatively no problems on illustrator 10 version 10.0.3.

I am experiencing extremely slow saves with CS. IT does pretty well up until the very end and it hangs for quite some time. On a couple of documents I have received an error that states a preview could not be saved. The file is fine however. This is a real PITA for me. I wonder if it is some random setting that I have enabled that you don't?

I have part of the problem solved. When saving these files I was leaving create PDF compatible file checked (same as I did inversion 10). I noticed that my file that I just finished was 75 megs when saved this way from CS. If I save the file the same way out of version 10 it is 1.5 megs. Something is up with this version of illustrator. Version 10 is still at least twice as fast at saving even with the PDF compatibilty turned off in CS.

    Any ideas?
