Double-clicking a template creates a copy?

Barb's suggestion will work up to a point, but creates additional headaches when you want to update the template itself, since you can't overwrite or trash a locked file without going though additional steps.

The best approach would be for Adobe not to use the OS X stationery pad as an interface for creating templates. InDesign could simply operate so that an .INDT file — whether opened from within InDesign or from the Finder or anything else — will open as an untitled copy.

This makes much more sense than relying on Apple's flawed interpretation of a stationery pad. After all, more often than not, in my experience, templates will reside in a different folder (and possibly even a different drive) than working documents.
