Double Clicking on a PDF document, will not open
When double clicking on a PDF document with the default document properties set to Acrobat Professional 8, the document will not launch Acrobat.
If Acrobat is already opened however it will launch.
I've tried:
re-setting file associations
deleting preferences
Uninstalling and reloading Acrobat: (solves the issue for a time but after a period of use it reverts to this broken state).
OS X 10.5.5 is fully updated, as is Acrobat 8.

How about Repairing Permissions with Disk Utility?
Sometimes it's better to boot you computer up off the Install DVD and run disk utility off the DVD.

Re: Double Clicking on a PDF document, will not open
Thanks Russell for the suggestion, I repaired permissions using the boot disc and it looks to have corrected the issue.
The previous reinstall also corrected it but after a time of usage, it reverted back. I will post again if this is the case, but for now the issue is solved.
Thanks again.

Re: Double Clicking on a PDF document, will not open
Another Utility that will do the same without aid of DVD.
is a Utility called AppleJack version 1.5 works with OSX.5.x and version 1.4.3 work with all previous systems.
download install the go into Single User mode (restart Command-S) wait for screen to come up will be in B&W as soon as it starts up release until you see a Blinking Block Cursor. type applejack as instructed on screen. follow the commands as shown in Order.
I amazing what problems it can clear up. Font Caches are removed and others. If you follow all the way to the end. Its amazing how much your machine will speed up up not having to wade through obsolete Cruft. Note if you do everything to the end. will take you computer a few minutes to rebuild caches, and other items.

Re: Double Clicking on a PDF document, will not open
I'll have to check out AppleJack. Thanks for the recommendation.
I've been using MainMenu, for some general cleanup and other cache cleaning on my Mac:

Re: Double Clicking on a PDF document, will not open
Russ,
What ApppleJack does is put a menu face on Commands built into the Unix base of OSX, but sheilds you from commands That could destroy your drive. Unix Like MS windows or Does has hidden command that if you type in aand hit return can litterally ruin your system. AppleJack doesn't allow yout to do that. You pick a menu choice and its code to write the hidden command correctly.
Its sort of like the fsck command only more powerful. It loads everything as far as the program into Memory so that when it does disk Repair it can unmount the disk while doing so. Great repair utility.
When you go to website to download it read up on it.
