    Default Downloading from usenet newsgroups

I'm looking for a program to download from newsgroups, something like
Newsleecher fo Windows, with a grafical interface.
I'm using Ubuntu 5.10 with a gnome desktop.
I've looked through Synaptic but i'm not sure if there is anything i can
use for this purpose. Can someone give me a hint?

Pan is a program for reading messages, not for downloading movies or
mp3's from usenet, as far as i know.
And i'm not looking for a Windows program because on my Windows pc i'm
    using Newsleecher for that.
I just want to find a Linux program for every Windows application i use
so that maybe one day i can stop using Windows without losing any
    functionality at all.

If you are at all familiar w/ Netscape or Mozilla and especially if you
find fault w/ Evolution or the light Foxfire, I've added the veteran
Mozilla-mailnews 2:1.7.13 pkg from the Ubuntu repositories to my Breezy.

The d/l was quick and positive w/ Synaptic.

This full pkg includes the excellent Mozilla browser, mail, readnews
newsgroups, and the html editor. This Mozilla browser is their
high-security version and will not do https banking as rcv'd. However,
Foxfire does, and it perfectly compatible w/ Mozilla. I often switch
back and forth if I need high security banking or secure IN mail.

Note, I've been working w/ Mozilla Netscape on Unix and Windows for over
20 years, and I love this old Linux version, especially for the usenet
    newsgroups!

    Thanks for your reply.
I installed pan, searched through the menu's and visited the website you
adviced me, but no matter what i do, i can't seem to find anything to
download in, for example, alt.binaries.ftd. Is there something i forgot
    to configure?

I am using Pan to read THIS newsgroup but for the binary newsgroups I
ended up using klibido. It works but with a few quirks that I am
    researching. - TheWaiting

Knode works fine for me. Mozilla Mail is also good for newsgroups.

I find 81 postings, oldest from 23/05 (wich is strange as my server
(newszilla.xs4all) has a typical retention of some 10 days).

    My setup:

    View/Header Pane
    .. Show Matching Articles

Then tick the first 5 of Match Scores of etc.

I just looked (in Pan) : 761798 postings in alt.binaries.ftd
Something is wrong with your setup.

Does klibido work on a gnome desktop?
